Prelude to Apocalypse was originally released in 1999 as a self-financed statement from New Jersey’s Disciples Of Mockery, a cult underground death metal band tied to the early Incantation lineage. Issued in limited quantities, the album has become a sought-after document of late 90s American death metal — known for its raw production, oppressive atmosphere, and uncompromising weight.
Formed by Craig Pillard, Ronnie Deo, and Jim Roe after their departure from Incantation, the band forged a sound rooted in cavernous density and doom-laden structure. Slow pacing, heavy low-end presence, and suffocating riffing define the album’s identity — bridging early death metal with a darker, more primitive doom influence.
